8:20 am - Okay, Okay
So, I haven't posted in forever, I know. My show - okay, the show I stage managed, so perhaps it wasn't exactly mine - was going up, so I was rehearsing until 9-10 pm each night, plus production meetings afterwards. Plus travel time.

Anyway, between that and gearing up for final exams, all my spare time has been eaten, digested and mercilessly shat out. But I'm back! And it feels so good! School lets out in two weeks. I fly home (yes!). I have a job waiting for me that doesn't suck! I'm starting to pick up Russian again - if you need someone to tell you how to say "My hovercraft is full of eels" in Russian, I'm your girl*. And I'm looking at pictures of Angelina Jolie's boobs.

Right now, life is pretty fucking fantastic. How about you?

8:54 am - Say Hello To My Little Friend
This is the scene currently taking place in my room:

Me: *type type type* homework, aaargh *type type type type* essays, aaargh *type type type* Aaaargh, existential romance novels!ф

Roommate: MUSIC! I LOVE MUSIC! JESUS CHRIST LET ME PLAY MY MUSIC AS LOUD AS I POSSIBLY CAN!

Me:...

Roommate: MUSIC!

Me: ... *TYPE TYPE TYPE TYPE*

Roommate: Let's turn on the TV, too!

Me: ... God damn you

Roommate: And invite some friends over!

Me: MUST FINISH PAPER!

Roommate: And smoke some pot!

Me: *head hits keyboard with some vehemence, accidentially deleting my five-page essay. Brains ooze out of ears upon impact. Computer screen slowly sputters, and goes dark. Dramatic music plays.*

Roommate: Where did I put the vodka?

9:46 pm - So
I started this journal with the intent to update every day.

Psych.

Anyway. This week has been a little tough to sort out. I'm stage managing a show (THAT I DO NOT LIKE! WHINE WHINE WHINE) so that means all of my spare time is being mercilessly eaten, gargled, digested and shat out by theatre. Today, I got up at 7:00 for class, went directly from class to work, then directly from work to rehearsal.

Outside.

In the cold.

FOR TWO HOURS.

I actually snuck into a bar on the other side of the street to just warm my hands up a bit.

Okay, so I've got all that out, so I'm not going to whine anymore. I promise.

(WHINE WHINE WHINE shut up shut up WHINE WHINE shut UP shut UP WHIIIIIINE)*

See? This ^ is why you can't take me places.

*Translation for our British readers: WHINGE WHINGE WHINGE

Anyway, beyond the whine - well, actually, that's about it. I'm procrastinating my ass off right now. I need to make an arrow out of cardboard. And handsew a butt-ton of burlap. And write a paper. Actually, two papers. And read two more books. And climb the Empire State Building. Carrying a donkey on my back.

1:26 pm - Food....braaaaains
I am at work.

I am extremely hungry.

When these two factors are put into syncopated effect, it creates a recipe for a day that is NOT OFF TO THE RIGHT START.

Fooooooood. Need foooooooooooood.

9:22 pm - WHAT IS THIS?
Why do three major events in my semester have to come to a head AT THE EXACT SAME TIME?!

Over the course of the next three weeks, I will be:
- Stagemanaging a show (meaning rehearsal from 6-11 almost every night, on top of a 9-6 [NO JOKE] class schedule because theatre kids apparently can't have free time like the rest of the world)
- Auditioning for another show, which involves getting a monologue and song performance-ready in a week; not usually difficult, but I have aforementioned rehearsals every. single. night.
- Writing a paper/reading every single book written by a particular and verbose author within the next two weeks; again, not usually a problem if not for the fact that I DON'T HAVE ANY FREE TIME WHATSOEVER THIS WEEK

Oh, and of course - choreographing a dance piece, which involves trekking out to the Lincoln Center Peformance Library every Saturday. Unfortunately, as I must reiterate, I don't have any free Saturdays.

Sorry for the lack of funny in this post. Just needed to vent.

ARGHGHGHGHGHGHHHHHHH

7:20 pm - My Life As Fanfic
Today, I found myself musing on a variety of deep, philosophical and weighty topics, such as fanfiction. Specifically, I wondered what would happen if my existance were transcribed into a fanfic format. So, I present:

What We Find In the Dark
This title took four whole minutes to come up with.
Rating: K for GREAT!
Warnings: The awesomeness of my existance may intimidate or even frighten you. I apologize for any loss of self-esteem, existential crisis, or renal failure that this story may cause. This is also a songfic, because I have no better way of expressing the torment of my soul than a musical number.
Pairing: Turtleinthecity/Turtleinthecity's ego

Turtleinthecity walked down the street slowly, perhaps even purposefully. Suddenly, she looked at her watch*. Her beautiful, fairy-like features sharpened in alarm. Her stride picked up into a graceful run - she was late for class! A theme song began to play.
Is ya man on the flo?
If he ain't...
Let me know
Let me see if you can run it, run it
girl indeed I can run it, run it

Turtle smiled as she recognized the song. No one truly understood her besides Chris Brown. Only his songs, his beautiful and potent lyrics, could breach the surface of her complicated and totally unique butterfly-esque life.

As she got to the door of the building, her blonde hair cascading gently down her shoulders, a gentlemen held the door for her. She smiled at him, showing her perfect pearly-white smile*. He fainted, and she shook her head gently. Sometimes her beauty really overpowered the rest of the world.

She arrived in her class precisely on time; her teacher smiled and winked at her.
"I'm so glad you could come, Turtle! And, unlike when people usually use this phrase, I mean it with no sarcasm whatsoever, you darling girl."
"My pleasure, Francis."
"Ho ho ho."

The rest of the day went wonderfully, but angst still lurked within Turtle's heart. Sadly, despite her exquisite beauty, sparkling personality and a penchant for saving lost and defenceless animals, she had not yet found her one true love. She had many suitors, of course. But the perfect guy - tall, dark, handsome and makes at least $550,000/year plus bonuses - had not come around yet.

As she retired to her spacious and luxurious dorm room, she mused on her sorry luck in life while her roommates fed her peeled grapes. Suddenly, someone rapped on the door. Roommate #1 ("What was her name again?" Turtle mused) answered it, and bowed deeply. In walked Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys The Prince of England! He totally proposed to her right there, and then they lived happily ever after in this huge castle in, like, Wales or something. Wales is a country, right? Yeah, Wales.

In the arms of an Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

10:12 pm - A Fanfiction!
Surely a rare sight on this journal!

This is actually from 2004. I pooped* it out sometime after HBP, because I wanted some damn vampires.

Some Damn Vampires )

X-Posted: Potter_Fans. And my ff.net account, technically, even if I haven't logged onto it since May, 2004. (That baby was created in 2002! 2002, people! That's before the internets were the intertubes!)

7:27 pm - Monday! Awesome Monday!
Mondays are great! I love Mondays, and so should you! Mondays are my favorite days of the week! We should have a month of Mondays, both for the awesomeness of the concept and the radical alliteration! Yeah Mondays!

Here's how I spent my rockin' Monday:
7:00 am: Alarm goes off. I turn alarm off, possibly muttering a curseword in the process.
7:05 am: Alarm goes off. I consider putting alarm in a blender. Fortunately for the alarm, I do not posess a blender.
7:10 am: Considering using roommate's blender for alarm puree. Unfortunately, roommate is pissed off at me because my alarm keeps going off.
7:20 am: It is very difficult to unplug an alarm without actually moving from the bed itself.
7:30 am: Time to pry self out of bed. I may have lost this battle, but the war is not yet over.

8:00 am: Writing class. Teacher does not believe my story that dog ate homework. Says I cannot have dog in dorms. I tell him my roommate is a werewolf. He proposes roommate eat me next time and email him my paper instead.
8:30 am: Still in class.
8:31 am: Getting really bored.
8:32 am: Even more bored.
8:33 am: So bored right now.
8:34 am: Ooh, rubberband.
8:33 am: Ow.

11:00 am: My paper is finished! Yay!
11:05 am: My paper is proofread! Yay!
11:10 am: My printer is out of ink! Fuck!

3:00 pm: Going home, yay!
3:01 pm: Roommate left werewolf hair all over carpet. Damn roommate.

5:00 pm: Dinner, yay!
5:01 pm: What is the dining hall serving today?
5:02 pm: ...
5:03 pm: Is that actually meant to be consumed by humans?

7:00 pm: Homework done, yay!
7:30 pm: Moon rising! Werewolf roommate is home! GAHHHHHHHHhherowatl34u833irfuj...

I love Mondays. Plz call ambulance.

4:01 pm - Back From Break
No updates, because I was spending some quality time in the great state of r&r! Actually the great state of Vermont, where I spent waaaay too much money on decent skiing, sub-par food and a really great view. Right now I'm weighing the benefits of either skivvying off on homework that I didn't do during the break, or spending more time on the intartubes. I believe the intartubes are winning, but our pollsters seem convinced that the tide may change sometime soon.

Also, I believe I will consume Chipotle for dinner, and I predict that it will be delicious. Very, very delicious. Mmm, Chipotle.

7:14 pm - Have You Ever Had One of Those Days
...where you just feel wierd? Everything was going fine for me - the sun was shining (I assume; it was hard to tell with all the clouds), I was feeling good and calm and centered, and then I ate lunch and felt like absolute shit. And I don't think it was my lunch that did it - I got a headache, got nauseous, slept for two hours, woke up and felt more nauseous, ate some Fritos, walked around, and then started to feel a bit better. What happened to my beautiful day? Where did it go? There was so much potential, so much untapped brilliance that could have happened! Who knows - if I hadn't felt ill, I could have cured cancer! I could have been a contender!

Speaking of lunch, let me describe my midday meal of champions.
Ingredients:
Miso soup (vegetarian; no fish-based dashi)
Orange and spice-flavored chocolate

Directions:
Eat soup and chocolate in a way to maximise general eating pleasure and minimise nutritional content.

...actually, maybe my lunch did play a part in the general shittiness of the afternoon. That, or the two ibuprofen I took on an empty stomach.

Someone should warn me before I do stupid stuff.

11:14 am - First Post to the New Blog
Mmm. My very first post in my very new blog! Très exciting.

I feel a bit nervous, actually. Should this post be deep and meaningful? Fluffy? Dangerous? Sexy? Crumbly and tea stained? So much pressure, so few formatting options!

Instead, I think I'll regale you with an ultra-boring story about my day. If you take a shot for every grammatically incorrect sentence, it makes the whole thing much more bearable, I promise. (Public Safety Announcement - TurtleintheCity recommends vodka for grammar errors, and Jack Daniel's for spelling errors. If this post degenerates into a long rant and ends with words that look like they have probably resulted from my banging my head against the keyboard, then Bacardi followed by passing out in the kitchen would be more appropriate.)

I woke up to the unholy racket of construction workers on my roof. At the grand hour of 8 in the morning, I can assure you that this created a very pleasant start to my day. After sitting in front of the computer for an hour wondering what the hell the rest of the world actually does at 8 am on a Saturday morning, my roommate awoke and began to play her music as loud as she possibly could. Any potential dancing on my part was quickly quashed by her shit taste in audio, which forced me to retreat to the bathroom. While washing my hair, I got the idea to start this blog. And so now we have TurtleintheCity, a blog about my life as told by me in the most self-absorbed manner I can summon. I hope you enjoy it.
